Coconut Water - How is the potassium doing there ?

I want it that way.......

Introducing magic water, I am about to reveal the greater effects of coconut water rather than only just a thirst reliever. It becomes a famous tropical drink along the equator and some sub tropical countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, India, Hawaii (USA), Thailand, and Caribbean.   Due to its sterility, coconut water can be used as an infusion liquid for human intravenous in emergency situation.  What really interest me from the beginning are actually these following things: high potassium and antioxidants contents in coconut water.  Cytokinin, L-Arginine, Magnesium, and Ascorbic Acid also become compliments of valuable substances in coconut water.

Its name is also Kalium (-K)

Potassium plays a very important rule for Congestive Heart Failure patients, especially when the symptoms of edema are being active and a tight fluid intake restriction has been applied.  Diuretics medication might withdraw too much electrolytes out of your body.  However we have to balance the adequate number of electrolytes inside by doing a routine Laboratory check (K, Na, and Cl in 24 hours) and consuming electrolytes replacement drug such as KSR potassium.  Kalium or Potassium is the most important electrolyte to control muscles in human body, including heart muscles.  Losing to much Potassium will result Hypokalemia.  The symptoms of Hypokalemia are:
  1. Sudden muscle weakening
  2. Power Loss
  3. Heart beat increases rapidly
  4. Blood pressure is rising
  5. Muscle cramp
  6. Vomiting
  7. Depression
  8. Hallucination
  9. Abnormalities in glucose tolerance and protein metabolism
  10. Some people will experience polyuria and nocturia.
So that is the relation between coconut water and Dilated Cardiomyopathy patients like me.  It is refreshingly cool for a health drink. You might add a little bit of sugar or brown sugar with Ice into the newly opened coconut shell and enjoy the breeze at the beach, or lying down the hospital bed with lasix and NTG infusion needle stick inside your arm while you are taking a 600mg KSR pill.  Just don't lose your balance.

A deficiency of potassium is a very rare case for a healthy individual.  We can source potassium from general food such as: banana, avocado, soybean, bamboo shoots (rebung), almond, apricot, chocolate, parsley, and potatoes. Some Italian researchers had reported that consuming more than 1.65 gr of potassium per day, will lower about 20% of hypertension and stroke attack risks.  I am not interested to dig more about debates regarding what is the best quantity of potassium to be consumed by human per day, as we can find in some articles or posts, because I believe it depends to too many variables of human conditions. So I just pick the simple and easy-to-understand materials to write.

Patients of kidney disease may experienced a twisted health effects after consuming potassium in large amount.  Meanwhile, at the edge of kidney failure stage which is followed by renal dialysis, potassium intake must be strictly limited, since the exceeding potassium excretion managed by the damaged kidney will rise up its concentration in blood stream resulting Hyperkalemia.  Too little or too much is never be the best, because  Hyperkalemia it self will result a severe cardiac arrhythmia.

Do you have this in your hometown ?

From Water to Fiber

Fermented coconut water will produce a chewy translucent jelly which is called Nata de Coco. Acetobacter Xylium is responsible as a fermentation actor that results jelly as a microbiological cellulose. Nata de coco was firstly developed in Philippines.  They usually use it as a sweetened desert, in ice cream or pudding or bubble tea mixtures, and sometimes in non alcoholic cocktail fruit. Nata de coco is good for human cardiovascular and digestion system since it has zero cholesterol, very low fat content, but high fiber for your dietary program.  However, please be careful of its sugar content because it is sweetened. People may not use the sweetened water of Nata de Coco, instead of using the jelly only for direct consumption or as a mixture. Anyway, trust me this: it is delicious and healthy too! Happy hunting!
